ELPHICK ROAD

1955

By Kitty Turner (nee Graves)

Photo shows Lower Elphick Road and was taken about 1955.

The left of the picture shows the back of Lewes Road Houses, in the background you can see the Valley Allotments (today Valley Housing).

Ray Turner (my husband) has his car parked outside number 87. Notice the lack of cars in the road!!

I remember having a ride in that car!
How is Ray nowadays?

Come on Ray, tell the story about the day that one the wheels came off this car... It is a BSA and I have a friend who is thinking of selling his for around £10,000 (Could even be this one!) Can you remember how much you paid for yours? I was one of the breakdown truck crew that came out to your rescue, (1956?) at Telscombe Cliffs.

Dad paid £50 for the car in 1955. He bought it in Eastern Road, Brighton. Now and again the wheel would come off. Dad last saw it in Folkestone Kent, propped up on some bricks! Mr Gravett (Brighton) swapped with a Dot motorbike 1957.
