Newhaven Youth Marching Band was formed in 1986 with a membership of 15 young people. Our very first engagement was 5 November 1986, when we took part in the Lewes Bonfire celebrations, our hosts were South Street Juvenille Bonfire Society. The band was very popular in the 1990's with a membership of 35 young people, today the membership is about 15.

Our band appears at various functions throughout the year. We have attended many fetes, carnivals and concerts within Sussex, London, Edinburgh, France, Maastricht. We have also appeared on TV - BBC1 and ITV Big Breakfast.

The parents of our band members help to keep the band going by holding fund raising events, street collections (whilst the band is playing) and ferrying the children by car to events.

If you are aged over 8 and would like to find out about the band then please come along.  Our regular meetings are: Thursdays 6.30 - 8pm and Sundays 10.00 - 12 noon (Shakespeare Hall). You do not need to read music or already play an instrument. It costs £1.20 a week to join, and we supply an instrument and a jacket.
