This picture of Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh was taken on their visit to Newhaven in the summer of 1962. As they travelled up Newhaven High Street.

The building in the background is Bedford & Co solictors.

Blimey, I would have been just out of shot to the left. Bannisters Builders were just round the corner in South Lane. On that day we were allowed to go to the end of the lane to watch them go by. Not everyone came out I think we had a few who were not keen on the Royals!. Just realised that was half a century ago, frightening isn't it!

Remember it well John, was standing outside Oxley & Bennett's yard in Lewes Road watching it all happen. My dad even took his hat off and waved, now that was something. His hat was like your dad's pipe, never moved far from it's usual resting place.

Hi Keith, No this picture was taken by myself  on the 16th July, 1962 the same day as the Queen and Duke met the lifeboat crew and visited the Seachlight Workshops.
