Sleepers Hole pre 1900

By John Hills

This is a picture looking north over Sleepers Hole with the Ark House in the foreground the London to Paris Hotel is the building on the right-hand side of picture with the steamers moored along-side. We believe this picture was taken during the 1880's the railway track can just be seen running along the north side of Sleepers Hole which carried the materials to the West beach for the building of the west breakwater an few years earlier. The old wooden lighthouse from the early West Pier can be seen standing near the Lifeboat house centre right of picture.
