Newhaven Fort Children's Christmas Party 1946

By Harriet Parry on 02/11/2017 at 12:43

I am researching the murals painted by Air Sea Rescue servicemen in the counterscarp galleries at Newhaven Fort for an MA at Brighton University. Records show that it is highly likely they were painted for a Christmas party held 19th December 1946 for children who lost their fathers during the war. I am trying to trace any families of children who might have attended, and/or anyone who might have photographs showing the paintings between 1946 and the handover in 1962. It might not be immediately obvious that it is the fort so if anyone fancies some sleuthing in their attic I would be incredibly grateful. It is an important part of the fort's heritage and any input would be very gratefully received. Additionally I am interested in the relationship servicemen stationed there had with locals and any stories or photographs would also be fantastic. Many thanks in advance.
