HARBOUR VIEWS FROM THE 1970s and 1980s

Some pictures of harbour users.

Photo 1 looks like the Eendracht, which got into difficulties due to engine problems when leaving harbour in bad weather. A poor decision to leave port? Possibly!

The next three are photos of the temporary visit of a jack up barge. No-one liked the ones parked for months at the West Pier, but I think this one was carrying out repairs to the East Quay, or just visiting to pick up stores and equipment.

The photo of the cars on the Railway Quay is from 1972 and shows Simca cars either being imported or exported - very good business indeed for the port at that time.

The photo of the West Pier area shows construction of the 'bonios', the large concrete blocks that were then laid to improve the operation of the breakwater, and to help protect the original structure.

The final photo appears to show repair works in progress.

I think this last photo is the installation of support piles for the large container crane.
