Hardwicke Grange was a really handsome ship and visited Newhaven on a number of occasions. I don't think her sister ship Royston Grange ever made it here, she was sadly almost gutted by a horrendous fire after a collision in the River Plate in 1972. Everyone on board lost their life.

Were these photos all taken at the same time? With Meeching seen at the stern, ready to pick up a line, that would seem to indicate that she's about to swing Hardwicke Grange in the bight of the Breakwater and tow her in stern-first, which would have been the more usual way of doing things.

Andy, I don't think the last 2 pictures are taken on the same day but I do recall the ship entering harbour bow-first (as the pictures at the East Quay show).
