2014 marks the Centenary of the First World War, a landmark anniversary for Britain and the world. Home Fires is a new arts / heritage project and brand new play by Sara Clifford with Zap Art, exploring the role Newhaven, Seaford and their surrounding villages played during the First World War.

Home Fires is part of the First World War Centenary Partnership's (led by the Imperial War Museum) global programme of events and activities inspiring young and old to connect with the lives, stories and impact of the First World War. Home Fires will explore the impact of the conflict on the lives and families of local Newhaven and Seaford people at the time and for generations to follow.

Home Fires will include school and community workshops alongside oral history training for volunteers. The creative team will work in collaboration with Newhaven Fort and other local history organisations, such as The Keep, Newhaven History Society, Sussex Archaeological Society, Seaford Museum and Brighton University as well as local schools , colleges, armed forces veterans and other community groups .

Home Fires will culminate in an exciting, large scale theatrical experience at Newhaven Fort 18th-21st March 2015 with music, dance, sound installations, projections, professional performance and mass community participation.

Home Fires will be launched at Newhaven Fort on 1 November as part of the Royal British Legion's East Sussex Poppy Appeal Launch Event.http://www.newhavenfort.org.uk/
