Our Newhaven 'out and about'

15th July saw the 70th annual Lifeboat Fete. Due to the ongoing flood defence works up at Huggetts Green, the event was back at its old venue of Fort Road Rec. The weather wasn't so obliging this year, grey and chilly, with a few spits and spots of rain, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of these there. We're a hardy lot, us 'lifeboat feters', we've endured far worse conditions than this!

Our Newhaven was in attendance, with Carol Walton and Andy Gilbert manning the stand. A display of photos, laminates and the life history of the tug 'Meeching' were available to look at, and the team enjoyed chatting to many people during the day. Particularly nice for me on a personal note, to catch up with members of the Holden and Still families, to share reminiscences of the Meeching, Foremost 22, Fred Holden and Jock Still.

Unfortunately, even though my laptop was in the shade, the overcast light made it impossible to view the on-screen presentations that we'd prepared. Never mind, they'll be on show the next time we're out!
