Various images from 1941-45

By Sue Sherwin-Lugg

Here are some images of the Newhaven Fire Service from 1941. They come from the possessions of my grandfather, Frederick George Sherwin.

Can anyone add some more information, names and faces etc? Andy-Editor

It would not suprise me if my grandfather Albert Patten is in one of these photographs as he was AFS in Southampton at the beginning of the war whilst working at Vosper Thorneycrofts, he was then transferred to Newhaven to work in the marine workshops along with his brother Eddie, so I would imagine he also got involved in the local fire service here. In fact, that may be him back row, 3rd from right (as we look at it) in the first picture of the men.

Yes Bruce that is definitely Bert Ashley, my dear old dad, in first picture seated on ground second from left. My nephew looks just like him.
