NEWHAVEN SWING BRIDGES

Former and replacement

By Stephen Morris

The 1600 g.r.t. Spanish refrigerated cargo vessel Glaciar Negro built in 1966, was normally a visitor to the East Quay importing fruit but on this occasion had taken a different cargo through the bridge to the North Quay. She was broken up in Turkey in 2010.  One of the larger ships to visit the North Quay.

The lower picture shows the 800 g.r.t. Spanish cargo ship Sota Eduardo built in 1974, heading through the present swing bridge in the early 1980's. Sadly wrecked in the North Sea in 1985.
