WHITE HORSE TRAWLER/THALES Rotterdam

"White Horse" refit and renamed "Thales"

By Tom Bakkers Thales

Request for information and stories about the White Horse stranding event in December 1988 at Tidemills, near Newhaven.

We are on a search to document the story of the fishing trawler "White Horse" which has stranded in December 1988 on the beach at Tidemills.

The White Horse nowadays is in service again after a extensive refit, refurbished from the former trawler to a commercial passenger expedition like so called “gentleman’s yacht“, sailing in the Rotterdam area under the name Thales. (website removed site rules)

Hopefully there are people, white horse crew, coastguards, lifeboat crew or spectators who have some knowledge or stories of this event in the December 1988.

It would great if we can get in touch, so we can document their experiences, stories with an interview or just by email.

Please  get in touch with us via the "Our Newhaven" website! Thanks in advance.

 All the best, Tom Bakkers.

Editors note:-

If you can help Tom in his quest please contact us via the Our Newhaven website by adding a comment to this page and your details/information will be pass on.

There is a page on this website with pictures and comments highlighting the stranding of the Whitehorse in front of the then Buckle Pub.

But I remember the Grounded trawler at Tidemills in 1988 as I was on duty and stop Reporters and Local people getting too close.

That was certainly a stormy time..
