I remember day dreaming out of the Junior school window at the "Volunteer Pub and Patrons", whilst Mr White read passages from "The Wind in the Willows". I flunked the following composition. Hey, I was 11yrs old!

I remember the Volunteer. The infants and junior schols were both almost opposite. I started work in South Road at Haven Cleaners and as soon as I was old enough I went inside The Public House. it was very small but the then landlord Fred Slade wife and two daughters gave it a good atmosphere. It was only an ale house up to 1961.
