REPAIRS AT THE OLD LEVEL CROSSING

Renewing the timber crossing

By Richard Beckett

Who remembers the old level crossing with the timber decking between the rails? With the passage of time the continual road traffic used to loosen the bolts which held the timbers in place and when cars or lorries crossed they made a rattling noise. I would guess that this picture was taken when the timbers were being replaced.

Now look at Mount Pleasant in the background. Very few houses AND I do not think the Nissen huts are there. So it is possibly a pre-war photo.
