I notice that Dave Standing was Manager of Newhaven in the mid seventies. He was in charge at Seaford F.C. in the late sixties, I only played a few games for them (not good enough) I also played for Alfriston at that time. Dave made us train so hard we were so fit and sometimes did'nt see a ball at training. I remember Dave Farley played for us, he was a hard man if anyone got hurt in a game Dave would sort out the offender. I got a friend of mine Brian Coleman to come and play for us, he was different class, having been coached by his uncle who was Dave Sexton who went on to manage Manchester United. In the first game he played for us he scored straight from the kickoff, then later in the game when I was about to shoot he went straight through me to get to the ball and scored. He lived in Brighton and soon went to play a higher grade of football over there.

How strange to be sitting in Brighton nearly 30 years on and see a picture of Dave Standing my late husband. I hated football!!!... but feel sad for Dave that he died so young. I am able to pick out all the players and remember them quite clearly, as does my daughter and son David.
