It is my understanding that Huggets Field gets its name as an 'anglicised' version of the name Huguenots and was the area of meadowland that was used to graze the livestock from the nearby farm at the intersection of Chapel St, South Road and Fort road. I believe that the farm itself was connected with the Huguenot Priory and there are photographs on this website of a herd of cows in 'Huggets' by the ford in the river either on their way to, or on there way back from grazing over on the east side. Does anyone know if this is close to the facts.?
