WEST PIER LIGHTHOUSE - 1976

The Demise

By Laurie Stonehouse

The original West Pier Lighthouse was built in 1885, the first two photographs show the demise of this victorian landmark. In 1976 the West Pier almost collapsed into the harbour entrance, unfortunately the lighthouse did suffer structural damage and was deemed unsafe. Sometime later this old building was torn down, but the top of the lighthouse was saved and can now be found in the Paradise Park gardens.
