A friend of my Father asked if he could help identify the people in this picture because he knew one of them to be his Brother in-law Charlie Lower.
According to a list (sorry not complete) with a copy of this photo I have the names which are as follows :
Back Row G. Brown D. Williamson W. Wilkes R. Blann Bob Ransom R. Wallace Charlie Lower Bill Sherwin
Middle Row D. Thompsett David Renville Ron Pryor T. Heathfield D. Grey W. Brookes ? L Beale P. Belton Harry Mitchell
Front Row Russell? S. Farley John sherwin L. Mitchell S. Oxley Ted ???field R. Tucknott and Ted Marson (Teacher).
S Oxley was Colin Oxley and D Williamson was Don
Les Beale was one of the foremen I worked under when I was an apprentice carpenter at Bannisters Builders. He was a big influence on me , I still heed his words today. Are you his son David?. I can remember he had a Morris 1000 Traveller, I resprayed it in my parents' front garden one time.
Hi Terry Les Beal (no e on the end), was not my Father as far as we know not related, but research could show different. Both Beale and Beal families lived in Gibbon Road before the War.
As far as I can remember, Les, his wife and two sons, always lived in Court Farm Road down by the westside recreation ground. Les always amazed me how he could light a roll up when it was only about half an inch long without burning himself.
Harry Mitchell on the end of the middle row is my father who sadly has passed away also middle of the front row is Lil mitchell (aunt Lil) who has also passed away.
My Grandad was Matthew Brookes who was on the Paris or Brighton at Dunkirk. His children were evacuated from Newhaven, including my mum Lilian and her twin sister Rose! I have been trying to find as much information about Matthew. Does anyone have any information about him they can pass on ?
Colin Oxley was my uncle. He went on to teach (and become vice-principal), of a school in Haywards Heath. Sadly, he passed away ten or eleven years ago.
