RAILWAY QUAY - STRANDED 2009

Danger - No Mooring

By Laurie Stonehouse

Please remember to read all signs, mooring your vessel along the Railway Quay is particularly dangerous.  The unfortunate people on this yacht probably moored their boat at night, and the following morning found themselves stranded on the old gridiron near the Marine Workshops. A local fisherman raised the alarm and our Lifeboat crew came to the rescue, once the tide came in, the small vessel was able leave its awkward position.

Interesting picture of a unfortunate situation which happened earlier this year to this small Westerley class of yacht who obviously did not notice the high-lighted sign trying to make people aware of this dangerous berthing area, over the now decaying gridiron. (Symptomatic of general harbour structures !!) Luckily not too much damage was sustained .
