2nd from left in photo 1 is Mrs. Bates and it looks like her 2nd left back row photo 2 and 3rd left almost hidden photo 3. She lived at 17 Rose Walk and I was friends with her son Glen. Notice these are all from private collection of Glen.

I remember going to the Downs Hospital in 1960 to do some plumbing repairs. At this time I was a 15 year old Apprentice. After giving some of the young nurses a bit of gob and torment, they said their turn would come and I just passed it off as an idle threat. WRONG, that afternoon they bundled me in a bed sheet, put me on a trolly, wheeled me down the corridor into a bathroom where a ready filled bath was waiting, yes, you,ve guessed it, they pushed me off the trolly, no messing straight in. Next morning, just about to get gobby again, my workmate catches me and said "will you ever learn". We did get to have some fun though. I can remember the nurse, 2nd from the right front row, 2nd photo, seeing snow for her very first time, simply amazing. I often went to the "Downs" to work and made many friends there, good memories.
