What was the occasion?

By Dick Roberts

We came across this while my wife and I were sorting out some of her old family photos.  The two gents in pretty much the centre of the picture are my wifes father and his brother, George and Arthur Harvey.  Seated at the centre of the table is Tony Hill, my fathers cousin.  We have no idea as to the occassion or where the photo was taken but feel sure that someone out there will know and perhaps add a few names to the other faces.

This photograph was taken at Southend and it was a Carriage and Wagon outing. They used to break up trucks and carriages at North Quay Newhaven. A few names I remember are:- Clem Butler, Ben Renvield, Maurice Hill, Phil Doyle, Steve Winder, Tony Hill, two Harvey brothers and Harold Rigby.
