KATY MAY

A former Newhaven stalwart

By Dick Roberts

First of all apologies for the quality of the photograph, I only had my mobile phone with me, typical.  This picture was taken in August 2009 on the banks of the River Tamar, on the Cornwall side, just over the river from Plymouth.  In the centre of the picture is, I hope you can see, an ex Watson class lifeboat.  Fortunately I did have a pair of binoculars with me and I could read her name as Katy May.  Back home and a bit of digging on the ships nostagia website revealed here true identity as the ex RNLB Kathleen Mary, Newhaven's lifeboat from 1959 to 1977.  Really good to see that our old lifeboat is alive and well and enjoying her retirement in the west country.

You're quite correct Bob, afraid I have dyslexic fingers when typing!
