Pictures of the cross channel steamer the " Arromanches " entering the harbour in the early 1960's
M. W. Hills
Arromanches was sold in 1964, John, so these two photos of her are earlier than you thought.
Yes thank you Andy the text should read EARLY 1960's
Just as a matter of interest at the time that the Aromanches was running there was also her sister ship the Londres, of which I could not find any record of, and the two cargo ships Nantes and Rennie. I think I have got the spelling right for the two passenger ships. This was in the late 40s and 50s. When I used to live in Newhaven. They bring back many happy memories.
There should be a few pages about Londres on here Dave. Both ships ended up in the Med, running for Greek owners. Arromanches had a good career as Leto, running alongside her former Newhaven stable mate, Lisieux. Londres was not so lucky, gutted by fire a few years after leaving Newhaven.
There were three cargo ships; Rennes, Nantes and Brest.
