NEWHAVEN - A MOMENT IN TIME

A Sunday morning photographic stroll around town in early Spring 1989

By Derek Longly

After being away from my family's home town for most of my life working overseas and living in various other parts of the UK I was pleased when I was finally able to move to live in Newhaven and thus 'return to my roots' in late 1988.

In the early Spring of 1989 I set out one fine sunny Sunday morning to record my impressions of the town, to see some of the changes that had taken place and also trace what remained from my memories of early visits as a youngster back in the 1950's.

As an impression of the town and how it appeared on that occasion some twenty two years ago here are some of the photographs that I took during my exploration.

Who on earth thought that using sewage pipes as planters in the High Street was a good look? Perhaps the council had a few left over.
