EXPRESS SANTORINI ex CHARTRES

Still a fighter

By Stefanos Papadopoulos

Believing that some people might be interested to know, ex CHARTRES (now EXPRESS SANTORINI) is still in operation, and as you can see in the pictures I have posted here, she is still in a very good shape and condition.

Since 2007 she operates at the Azorian  Islands for the summer seasons and in Greece during winter time.

I have added some pictures of her accomodation, vehicle space, open decks and engine room, just to prove my words and because I think some of you would be interested to see.

Her humble Master,

Cpt Stefanos Papadopoulos.

(The pictures showing the ship at sea, were taken by Manuel Bettencourt from Gracioca island).

Many thanks for sending in these really interesting views of the ex Chartres. She looks to be in better condition internally now than she was all those years back when in service out of Newhaven and certainly decorated in a more conventional manner.

My compliments to you and your crew, Captain. She looks in beautiful condition - MUCH better than the last time I was on board her in the 1980's. It's a shame that her running mate APOLLON, ex SENLAC, is now gone. They were a good pair on the Newhaven route.

Dear Andy, thanks a lot for your good words. The truth is that we are working hard to keep her in this condition,  it is surely worth the effort.  People travelling with us, are mostly satisfied and say nice things about the ship. Yes, it's a shame that Apollon is not with us any more. I am pretty sure that some persons have already regretted their decision to send the ship for scrap.

Now what would be really good was if we got together and went on an "OUR NEWHAVEN" trip to sail on her again.

Absolutely Terry, what a brilliant idea although she was one of the French ships it would be a nostalgic throw back in time to see her in her present situation, ( Shame this could not have been suggested for 'SENLAC' ) alas to late for her.
