PICK & SHOVEL GANG
1930's
By Laurie Stonehouse
The following picture was taken sometime in the 1930's and shows the pick and shovel gang. This group of men dug out and constructed the winding road that leads up to the Fort. The foreman is standing with a newspaper in his pocket, and Thomas Ince is in the bottom left of the photograph. The story surrounding this event is that once the road was finished, none of the men were paid for all their hard work, apparently the person in charge of the construction vanished with all the money.
