This really brought a flood of memories back. I was a member of the Seaford scout group at Blatchington although this event would have taken place shortly after I left. My family and I knew Geoffrey Haynes the District Commissioner (on the far left of the picture) very well and he was quite influential in helping me obtain a position as a trainee librarian at Eastbourne Public Library when I started work. I wasn't there long, however, as I was looking for a more adventurous career but it was a good initial grounding in what work was all about.
My father is the gentlemen in the middle of the picture with a hat - Arthur Woolven who was Group Chairman of the Group for over twenty years. Third lady from left is Mrs Young who was Cub Mistress - next to her is Mr Wilson who was Group Treasurer - the Scout Leader is Mr Chapman and on the extreme right Mr Hunkin. All the boys sitting were from 3rd Newhaven Cub Pack. I myself later became a Cub Scout Leader with this group until my marriage in l974.
I am also in this photo.....second from right front row. I have this newspaper cutting and actual date is August 1958....my Mum made a note of it. Good to see you are making comments Heather. Not sure if you remember me but we both lived in Brighton Road and went to school together. I lived at No.34 and think you were No.86. Is my memory still good ? Hope your keeping well.
Still remember childhood days in Newhaven - remember you Paul - those were good days - I think we were lucky to have the freedom to play and enjoy places like Rose Walk, Bullens Bush and the Union Hill.
