EAST SIDE ROVERS
Before the War
By Ken Browning
These are photos of Eastside Rovers before the war. My Dad, Bert Browning is in the top picture back row, third from right. He played for them again after being demobbed and I remember being smuggled into the Engineer Pub after a cup game and hidden behind the piano in case the law came in. Unfortunately he broke his arm playing and Mum forbade him to continue as this was before the Welfare State arrived and we had to rely on good will whilst he was off work. I believe he continued his association as secretary of the club until we moved in 1948.
