Bill Smith (middle row) was my Dad, he used to sing at shows in Eastside Social Centre. Is it still standing?

Yes it is still standing Francis.

Was it your father that taught me as a lad how to catch Bass from the beach and Eastside pier?

Hi John,

Yes it was. He taught a lot of people to catch Bass including people like Frankie Vaughan and Max Bygraves, and of course me. I left Turkeytown long ago and haven't been back for ages. It saddens me a bit when I do because I wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else. It was a real community in those days, everyone's door was open and we could roam freely wherever we wanted, and got a clip round the ear if we went where we weren't wanted. It's changed a lot.

My Dad passed away around 25 years ago, my Mum passed away last year.

A really lovely man I have some fond memories of him and still retain the fishing techniques he taught me all those years ago.  John - Editor.

Bernard Kingswood is to the left of Bill Smith. He was my foreman while I worked in the tool room at Parker Pen late 50/60s, a super man.
