FIRE STATION, MEECHING ROAD

Sussex Express Article - April 2013

By Carol Walton

This month we are showing a great photo of the old Fire Station, taken in 1965, which will bring back lots of memories of what Newhaven was like at this time.  The Fire Station building had previously been a cinema called the “Kinema”.  The year after this picture was taken the fire service moved into their new premises in Fort Road. Just look at all the wonderful cars from this era, including a Minor Van 1000 which was probably a Post Office vehicle (there’s a locking bar across the back door, which is typical of the post office vans) as the Post Office was at that time opposite the Fire Station.
