Nice unusual shot of the SS BRIGHTON, the last of the classic mail steamers making her way on yet another Newhaven to Dieppe crossing.

I wonder how many times she made this round trip before being sold off for her short period of service on the western English Channel routes prior to being scrapped due to high running costs etc.

This vessel was of a very robust design for the Newhaven to Dieppe service and if her throttles were opened up she had a very fast turn of speed. She was built by Wm Denny of Dunbarton , Scotland and there is a lovely builders model of this fine ship which shows her detail etc, in the Newhaven Maritime Museum in Avis Way adjacent to Paradise Park.
