NEWHAVEN FOLK IN NEED OF IDENTIFICATION
Can you put some names to the faces?
By Mark Tovey
Here is a selection of photos from the collections of Mrs Warnes and Marcia Tovey [nee Stapley]. All feature Marcia [my Mum] but in each of the photos there are faces I don't have names for. Are there any eagle eyed old Newhaveners with long memories or anyone who recognises a relative or two who might be able to identify any of them? Any help greatly appreciated.
Note for photo No.1: This was taken at the Rose Cottage Inn, Alciston. I know the people from left 2,3 & 4: Marcia Stapley, Edwin Warnes [my Uncle], and Bert Lillywhite. The photo comes from an Easter Friday outing when folks from Newhaven would walk from Denton to Berwick, so this would likely be a photo from one of the earliest of these walks [see my separate page on Bert]
No. 1: Taken at the Rose Cottage Inn, Alciston, circa 1947
Photo 2: of the 8 people, I can identify: Marcia Stapley [2], Albert Warnes [3], Mary Warnes [5] & Edwin Warnes [8] but don't know the others. Taken mid 1940s
Photo 3: of the 8 people, I can only identify Marcia Stapley [4th from left]. Circa early 1950s
Photo 4: unknown woman on left, Marcia Stapley [right], early 1950s
Photo 5: Marcia Stapley [3rd from left]; others unknown. early 1950s
