"Charlotte"
By Colin Holden
The "Charlotte" coverted to a lighter in 1913. Also note the stage where she is berthed, it was used for loading chalk ballast brought down from Colgate and Grays pit by rail wagons pulled by horses, the uprights seen here would be horizontal over the boats hold, the horses and waggon were uncoupled leaving the waggon to roll onto the stage above the hold, tip forward and dischage its load into the hold.
