S.S. SHIELDHALL

An occasional summer visitor

By Andy Gilbert

An occasional, and very welcome, visitor to Newhaven is the S.S. Shieldhall. This fine old ship runs pleasure cruises and is kept in pristine condition. This photo was taken a couple of years ago. I've never yet managed to make a trip on her, but there's always next time.

Hi The Shieldhall's home port is Southampton and I see her occasionally when I'm near the docks

Wasn't this occasion when the Shieldhall was in port as part of the Lifeboat day celebrations on the Fort Rec. The same day as an old lifeboat was brought onto the field on a horsedrawn trailer?

Yes, it was our lifeboat station's bicentenary weekend 24th-25th May 2003. S.S. Shieldhall was the venue for the evening function and also took part in the display in Seaford Bay.
