JOHN BURGESS - OUR LOCAL BOXING CHAMPION

Photo 1932 - Royal Artillery / TA Champion

By Brian Urry

This is a picture of John Burgess a well known local man who used to work the capstan on the swing bridge. This must be in the early days as he has a cabinet full of cups & medals won during his time with the territorials.

Is this the same Burgess family that were connected with the Royal British Legion Band 1932 (now the Seaford Silver Band ).
I know there was a Jim Burgess, a John Burgess and another Burgess. I believe one of them was a Fireman at one stage
