NEWHAVEN FORT

By Jackie Blackwell

Newhaven Fort (c 1870s). The men's barrack rooms all had porches for the 'night bucket'. The porches were not reinstated with the re-build of 1980s. A pit was dug in which is now the recreation ground from clay to make the bricks to build the Fort, they were baked in kilns along the southern edge of the present recreation ground.
