R.I.P The Bridge
Why the R.I.P. comment ? don't tell me something's happened to the Bridge Inn !!!
Oh dear, I worked on reroofing the Bridge Inn when I was an apprentice in the 60s. We left a time capsual in a void in the wall with all our names on, I wonder if it will be found! Shame if it is coming down, is it still open?
I don't think they can pull it down, it's a Grade II listed building.
I think the local opposition to any attempts to pull it down, plus the Grade II listing, would make it unlikely to see it go. Internal conversion for flats (yes, more flats!) would be a possibility, no doubt.
The building / lease has been up for sale for some time, no investor has come forward to run the Bridge as a viable business, as I am aware the building will close as a public house and will be boarded up!
I think I had both my stag nights at the Bridge Inn (that tells you something!!!) and vaguely remember a very charming punk strippergram that had been organised for me. I also remember the circular pool table in the bar which must have been unique. It replaced the bar billiards table which I managed to spirit away to the telephone exchange lunch room.
I've just stumbled upon an article online that says the Bridge Inn has been saved by Harveys Brewery and quotes Carol from OurNewhaven. Is this true ? ( I hope so )
It looks like it if the planning goes thro Rob

Good. I'm planning a trip back later in the year so it would be nice to drop in there for a pint.
Sounds like all us contributors should drop in for a pint.
Count me in for that! :)
Any news on the progress of the Bridge Inn re-opening? I saw that Harveys purchased it back in September and that they said they would hope to be working on it "in 6-7 months".
I saw a planning application notice a week or so ago, with Harveys requesting permission to put flats in upstairs, presumably to finance downstairs as a pub/restaurant.
Have just come across this article, which my nephew has commented on a few times. I sincerely hope the Bridge Inn has been saved as Jack and I spent our wedding night in the "Royal Room" (if that is correct) and caught the ferry over to France the next morning. The whole street looks so different to how I remember it.
What a surprise to see your name Jacquie, so sorry about Jack. The Bridge Inn is still there but I'm afraid the whole town has changed and I rarely go there. I do visit my old neighbour, Betty, in Rose Walk and we have a chat about the old days. Hope you are well.
