These are great pictures, I have really happy memories of Meeching Junior School. We hatched bantam eggs, raised baby rabbits and guinea-pigs as well as having the 'new' swimming pool. People didn't take so many photos in those days, so it's great to see them emerging on this site. Any more?

I remember this well - my dad (Des Terrill) built this pool and I used to go down with him at weekends when he was busy on it and have a free swim before it was officially opened. As I recall on the opening day, a few women (including my Aunt, Maureen Bunce) were dressed as St Trinians girls and inevitably got pushed in. Des also built the scouts hut in the recreation ground in Fort Road.

My mother tells me that the pool was opened by BBC sports commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme.
