These, I feel are a good selection of photographs that were taken around 1990. It was not long after these photographs had been taken, that many of these shops were to close down. The only shops still remaining in 2008, are Bennetts, The Viceroy, Safehaven, and Teleview, with only Bennetts and The Viceroy in their original premises.

In the bottom picture of the of the "Bridge Inn" beneath the small window, second from the left, used to be a royal coat of arms with a sign saying 'Patronised by Louis Philippe'. The room behind this window was where he spent the night on the day he fled France in 1848. My bedroom window was directly opposite.
