The Newhaven Football team picture here outside the Sheffield Arms in Fort Road (now a CO-OP store) we think the cup is for finishing runners up in the East Sussex League senior division in the 1093-04 season.
The club joined the senior division of the East Sussex Football league as "Newhaven & Cement Works" in 1899 season and were runners up in the division in 1900-01 before repeating the feat two years later, which is the team pictured above.
Then in the following season 1904-05, they went one better and won the East Sussex senior division together with the Royal Ulster Rifles charity cup beating Shoreham in final 3 - 2 after extra time.
The gold medal my grandfather Charles Collington was awarded in that 1904-05 season is pictured below.
