PARSON'S CORNER, THE HIGH STREET & SLEEPERS HOLE
Old postcard images - can anyone date them?
By Heidi Watkins
Back in the late 1970's or early 1980's my Mum or Dad bought a picture frame with three postcards in it, probably from the Meeching Rd. Flea market.
No.1 Shows what we all knew as Parson's Corner. In this picture it may well have been called Thompsons Corner.
No.2 Shows a shot taken looking up the High Street taken from the Bridge Hotel. On the left was one of the big banks, either the Westminster or Barclays. On the right is the Ship Hotel and above that, the building with 'Carriages and Horses on Hire' written on it, became the National bank.
No.3 Shows Sleepers Hole with Cross Channel Steamers in the background.
Now, can anyone date these pictures ?
Postcards as fitted into the frame. Full credit to the photographer. I wonder if he knew they would end up here on a modern WEBSITE
